Paul Klee is a painter with an individual style. He seemed to mix cubism, surrealism, and expressionism in his paintings. Sometimes they seemed to have other styles, too.
There are many lines and circles that are blue and white. These shapes of cool colors direct the eyes to the one object in the painting, a tree with yellow leaves.
The houses are light, as if everybody in a city turned on all their lights at once. This makes them have some warm colors such as orange and red. They are covered with a dark blue sky. The mix of the warm colors under the cool colors gives a light and comforting feeling to the painting, even though the lines can make it look busy.
This painting is neat as it seems to start with a bunch of shapes in cool colors and a few splotches of warm colors. However, the longer it is viewed, it is obvious that is actually a landscape.
Red Balloon is a painting conjures images of childhood drawings and toddlers' cartoons. It combines simple shapes and drawings with advanced painting techniques of well established artists.
Woman Awakening is a very busy painting with lines of all colors. There is also an outline of a person and it can clearly be seen that one eye is open. Perhaps the stuff around her are the things of her dreams.
