If you live in the mid-west, about the end of February or first part of March, you are hoping never to see snow again. Take a trip to Arizona. This is a yearly get-away for us and each year we find new things to see and do. Of course, we like just laying around, going for walks and enjoying the sun. The sun is something we don't see much of during the winter months in the mid-west. Take a ride north to the most beautiful area in Sedona, AZ with the red rock. Absolutely gorgeous.
The best time to visit this area is during the late summer months. San Francisco, on a whole is not too warm. But going there in July or August is a wonderful break from the warm, sticky weather experienced in the mid-west. Be sure to visit Beuna Vista down by the wharf for the best irish coffee. The cable cars make a "turn-around" by the Beuna Vista so a great opportunity to jump on one and take a ride. Be sure to walk the wharf and watch the seals as they lay around or perform for you.
There is an abundance of night life if that interests you. Be sure to take a jacket though as it gets cool in the evening. Be sure to take a drive down highway 1 along the ocean and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Visit Monterey and Carmel but leave your wallet back at your hotel. These towns are pricey but beautiful to see.
Hop a flight to Seattle, rent a car, or take a boat to one of the prettiest cities you will most likely see. We drove to Vancouver, BC and stayed a couple of days and then hopped a car ferry to Victoria. We visited there late summer and enjoyed warm weather along with beautiful scenery. The flowers were abundant. We always take a bus tour of any new area as soon as we get there. This allows us to see the areas that we want to drive back to and spend some time. Take a drive up to Whister and enjoy the cool mountain air. Be sure to visit the elegant Empress Hotel in Victoria and make reservations for their afternoon tea. Even if you don't enjoy tea or find the affair a little too pricey, it will be well worth your time to at least walk through the lobby. Visit the square where you will enjoy local entertainment all day long.
For a real sense of Independence Day, visit Boston during the period surrounding the 4th of July. One of our best trips out east, centered around Boston during this time. The Boston Symphony will entertain you at the park both July 3 and July 4 playing all the patriotic music you want to hear. During the day, be sure to visit the area surrounding the universities. And, enjoy some of the most fabulous seafood you will ever find.
This city is a real surprise to you. Located in southeastern Wisconsin along Lake Michigan, there is an abundance of activities. Aside from all of the ethnic festivals taking place during the summer months (Summerfest being the largest musical festival in the country),there are so many museums and art festivals to enjoy. This is home of the Pfister Hotel which is still an elegant after many years. It is home of the Milwaukee Brewers so be sure to take in a baseball game if visiting during the summer months.
I love some of these places too. Haven't been to all of them but would like to sometime.
