Shel Silverstein was a great poet. He wrote many silly poems and even through his silly poems, some had serious messages.
This is a wonderful poem about not judging others. Some people laugh when it is mentioned, but it is always true. "We all look the same when we turn off the light."
Invitation stresses the importance of imagination in a simple way. Silverstein invited the hopers, wishers, prayers, and even magic bean buyers to sit with him by his fire.
The Homework Machine is a fun poem, but it can also be taken seriously. It shows why children should do homework for themselves. After all, a machine or somebody else might not give the correct answers.
Sour Faced Ann is a fun poem. Ann complains about what she doesn't have. She then complains about what she has because she doesn't like part of it. It's silly, but it is fun.
There's Too Many Kids in This Tub is a fun poem. There's no serious message than can be obtained from the poem. However, it's fun to read and recite and it is fun to wonder how so many kids got in the tub.
Wonderful list.
Ah, thanks for the memories! I read Shel Silverstein for a poetry project in high school. :-D
Messy Room was always my favorte. Maybe because the room looked a little familiar....
