Elf on the Shelf is one of Santa's Elves who comes to your home to watch over the kiddos. Every night, he returns to the North Pole to give his report to the Big Man. Then he returns in the morning, perched in a new spot in the home from where he can catch a glimpse of the happenings.
Your Elf comes with a very nice picture book, titled "Elf on the Shelf." It tells the rhyming story of your Elf's mission. Great for encouraging young readers.
There is a place in the book to note the date that you started your Elf tradition. The book explains that your Elf will go home with Santa on Christmas Eve, but that he will return again next year. This is one of those traditions your kids will enjoy for years and then pass along to their own children.
It's fun to find cool new hiding places for your elf friend. It's even more fun for your children to wake each morning and look for him.
You get to name your Elf. Well, if you're like me, you get to suggest a bunch of cool, Christmasy names suitable for an Elf. And then your kids get to squash your ideas and name him something like Zeus.
If you touch the Elf, his magic will go away. But it doesn't say you can't take his picture! It's fun to create an album full of shots of your Elf in all of his hiding places.
My granddaughter just received an Elf on the Shelf and reads the book over and over. H5
