I love trying out new makeup, and I thought I would share my picks for the best department store makeup brands. They're in order of my favorites, but I'm not judging specific categories; ie, some are great for their eyeshadows others for their foundations. Either way, these makeup are excellent quality makeups that are worth splurging on.
I can't think of a single product made by Urban Decay that I don't like. Urban Decay is my favorite brand of all time for a number of reasons. First, their shadows are fun, trendy and ever-changing. There are tons of youthful colors to choose from in a variety of textures. I also love that they make the coolest kits for eyeshadow, lip gloss and combination packs. The colors included are varied, and the packaging rocks. They also have my absolute favorite eyeshadow primer. All of this, and they don't test on animals.
This is a professional-grade makeup that lasts forever. You can't find better high-intensity pigments ANYWHERE, and because they make products for makeup artists, their colors are limitless. They lose points because they are the most expensive brand I've ever used, but they are definitely the go-to brand when you need long-lasting eyeshadow in ANY color imaginable.
MAC has fantastic foundation, and I have been using their Studio Fix with SPF since I was about 16. People seem to love or hate their foundations, but it's all dependent on your skin type. As a girl with dry to average light olive skin, MAC is the only brand that matches my skin tone perfectly. They have also always been listed as cruelty-free. Best of all, when you buy from the MAC counter, the girls are all makeup artists who are trained to work with the customer to not just sell makeup, but teach them how to use it!
This grown-up brand has very soft, beautiful eyeshadows, and I love that the makeup goes on so naturally. I've used a lot of their products, and nothing compares to how good it feels on my skin. It goes on smooth and stays on for a long time. I love their Flora and Fauna eyeshadow compact!
I was told this brand is marketed more towards a teen crowd, but it doesn't stop me from loving their concealer. I don't use too many of their products, but I had to list them because they have the absolute best concealer I've ever used. There's a solid on one side and a liquid on the other; the solid is perfect for layering your coverage, and the liquid makes a great highlighter. I can't wait to try more products from them!
