When you see something you like, it's natural to envision it in your own household. But for the sake of clutter control, start sharing. That is, enjoy the great stuff in other people's homes.
This is probably the toughest thing for Accumulators in particular to say and think. Because it seems as though that sad, worn teddy bear or Grandpa's tool set probably do have feelings that we can injure. But they don't. They're inanimate objects that will never know whether they're at the animal shelter or a Habitat for Humanity office or upstairs in your attic. And you'll feel good about doing a good deed for someone else.
People who are naturally good at controlling clutter view it as a lifestyle choice, not a death sentence. Part of the balance means being able to splurge on occasion, to acquire something that doesn't absolutely fit into the plan. If you don't give yourself a little room to get the things you love, the ones that make your spirit soar, you may rebel against your new, simplified life entirely.
You have every right to lead a more simplified life, and there's no reason to apologize for it. Nor do you need to call a lot of attention to yourself.
People who seem to have clutter under control never blindly assume that all clutter is bad. Instead, they realize that people must continually consider what works for them. And you can't ever let your definition of clutter stop growing.
Keep up with clutter around your home, don't let your things own you. Life is Better with less clutter.
You also don't have to save everything for your kids to be able to have memories ....
Nice list of ways to help de-clutter your home.
Thanks for the list. H5
