Cell phone heath studies done in the U.S. are based on a 6' tall, 200 pound man using a cell less than one hour a day, according to Dr. Devra Lee Davis. Shorter and smaller folks accumulate more radiation. People who use the phone more than an hour are also exposed to more radiation.
Three European studies, sponsored by the World Health Organization, completed in 2006 found a direct link to glioma, a type of deadly brain cancer. The risk for cell phone users was double compared with non-cell phone study members. Swedish researchers in 2004 found increases in brain tumors for people using a cell phone for ten years or more.
Some minor changes in cell use can reduce your risk of contracting tumors and developing cancer.
The cell phone radiates the body and resting the cell against your body means the radiation travels through the body to keep the phone active. Turning the keypad toward the body allows the signal to reach the cell directly, but still allows radiation to occur, according to environmental health expert Devra Lee Davis.
The same harmful radiation is with you throughout the night, if you sleep with your phone on an end table near the bed, or worse yet, with the phone on the pillow. If you need to keep your cell on through the night, place the phone well away from your bed.
Two inches should be the minimum distance when talking on a cell phone, according to Dr. Davis. This space reduces the risk of hazards. Bluetooth headsets bring the signal right next to the head and have the same radiation problems as a cell phone.
A weak signal requires the phone to search for a stronger transmission. If you're holding the phone or have the phone on your body or in a purse held next to your body, the signal surge will continue to expose you to harm.
At the very least, turn the cell phone so the back of the phone is against your body. It's best to turn the phone off when not needed, so the exposure to signals is lessened.
Moving requires your cell to continually search for a signal as you move forward. The cell phone is working at the highest scanning level when you are driving, sitting on a train, or traveling by bus. Avoid using the cell in these situations to avoid health risks.
Nice list!
