Phases Your Child Needs to Hear

Introduction:

We all want our children to grow up to have good self esteem and self confidence. In order to do that our children need to know from a young age that they have our support and approval. Here are 5 phrases your child needs to hear from you often.

I Love You

All children need to feel loved. They also need to hear the words. Telling your child you love them often will help them to feel loved and let them accept that they are deserving of love which will help them to build self esteem.

I'm Proud of You

Children need to know that you are proud of them not just for what they accomplish but, for who they are as person. Telling your child you are proud of them often will help them to have pride in themselves.

You Did a Great Job

This is a phrase that you should only say to your child when you really mean it. Telling your child they did a good job when they don't put any effort only makes them feel that anything they do is good enough. However, telling your child they did a good job when they actually do will help them strive do do better at each new task they are faced with and they will gain confidence in their successes.

What Do You Think?

Asking your child what they think about different topics and really listening to their answers encourages children not to be afraid to voice their own opinions. It also gives them a outlet for thinking through how to react if they are faced with new situations.

I'm So Glad You Are My Son/Daughter

Voicing your joy that that your child is a member of your family will help them feel as though they belong and are wanted. Having a secure home base encourages a child to try new things that will allow them to build their own self confidence.




Final Thoughts

Children don't just grow up to be self confident, they need our love and support to build the kind of self esteem that leads to success. By taking the time to spend with your child and uttering a few simple phrases your child needs to hear will help them to become self confident adults.
