Pet owners cringe at the thought of having their pets altered - spayed for females and neutered for males. This should not be the case. There are dozens of reasons this is a necessary and loving thing to do for your pets.
Pets that are altered do not wander as much as pets who are not altered. This helps to keep them from being hit by cars and from animals that can hurt them.
It is impossible for pets to develop ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and testicular cancer when those organs are no longer present. The chance of breast cancer, in both males and females, is also greatly reduced.
Pets that are altered to not have the need to "socialize" with unaltered pets of their species. This greatly reduces the chance of them coming in contact with pets who have contagious illnesses and diseases such as kennel cough, parvo and feline leukemia.
Pets are not constantly wanting to breed will be more loving with their owners. Contrary to what many think, it does not keep pets from being protective. In fact, it can make them more protective because they spend more time with their owners on their own property.
Walk into any animal shelter and you will see thousands of eyes searching for a home. More than half of all animals in shelters are put to sleep, all because there are more pets than homes available. Start being part of the solution to the pet over-population problem instead of the cause of it.
Having your pets altered is a safe and easy procedure that every owner should do for their pets. Instead of cringing at the thought of this act of kindness toward pets, owners should cringe at the thought of not altering their "non-human family members."
