Introduction:

Freelance writing is supposed to be very flexible. We are supposed to be our own boss and write when we want to, right? This is true, to a certain point, but remember that you are trying to build a career and earn a living. Freelance web writing is flexible and you can choose your own hours. But it is still a job and there are certain things a web writer should do daily.

Write

This should go without saying, but at times it can seem near impossible to find the time, or inspiration to write. Your time is flexible, so you should be able to "steal" a few minutes from chores or children. You don't have to work on that intense assignment that will take research. Work on a bit of an easy article, write a blog post, or add a few paragraphs to a short story. It may just get you in the writing mode. Prime your writing inspiration by doing a List My 5 article that you already know about.

Network

People see many of us freelance web writers spending time on Facebook or posting to Twitter. This is all part of our job as a freelance web writer. Many of us spend hours and even days alone at our computers. Sometimes Face book or Twitter is the only social interaction we have. These social networks are ways for us to promote our articles and share thoughts and ideas with other freelance web writers. Think of it like someone discussing work in the office break room.

Take Breaks

So you have a ton of deadlines and think the best solution is to sit in that chair in front of the computer for hours. Sitting there for hours will just make you tired. Your eyes will hurt and so will your back and bottom! Get up, stretch and take a walk. If it is nice outside take a minute to go enjoy the weather. It is much better for your health and you will come back to your computer refreshed and less resentful about missing a beautiful day.

Read a Writing Tutorial

It doesn't matter how long you have been writing. There is a ton of stuff out there that you may not know. Fellow writers are very helpful about posting articles on succeeding at out chosen profession. Do you want to learn more about SEO? How about building your own website? Maybe you need tips on coming up with ideas for articles. You can find plenty of articles just like this one, that writer friends are happy to post. That is where Facebook and Twitter come in. We web writers click and read each others articles.

Add to Your Article Idea Notebook

What? You do not have an article idea notebook? Every freelance web writer should have a notebook for article ideas. Even if you rely a lot on assignment work, you should have article ideas of your own just incase you have all of your assignments done and still have time or inspiration to keep writing. Besides, starting your day by writing something you are really passionate about might just kick start you into tackling that one you need to do a lot of research for.

Final Thoughts

You may have your own daily rituals to keep you on track with your web writing career. If you don't these may help get you started. The most important step to building a successful freelance writing business is to write. Keep that writer's flow going daily, interact with other writer's and you'll soon be on track for a wonderful and lucrative career.
