Introduction:There is no accounting for taste when it comes to reading materials. With so choices in books, it can be difficult to decide which one to curl up with. There a few, however, that have withstood the test of time to be truly great.
Romance. Mystery. War. This book has it all. Not only is it an excellent read, it has the ability to transform lives. This is the only book available that was written by God through the hands of men.
Sylvia Plath was taken from us too soon. "The Bell Jar" was her only novel and a brilliant glimpse into the life of this literary genius. Not recommended reading when you are having "issues" with your mother.
Margaret Mitchell can tell a story; the movie, as wonderful as it, does not do this novel justice. See Scarlet, Rhett, Ashley and Melanie through the eyes of their creator and read this epic book.
With vivid descriptions and lyrical dialogue of days gone by, John Steinbeck captured the Dust Bowl as no one else ever could. Travel with the Joad family from Oklahoma to California and from the darkness of disaster to a glimmer of hope.
Ernest Hemingway lived the life of an adventurer. He told his story well. He will make Spain come alive for you - as well as his diverse characters.
Reading is the only way to truly travel. All over the world, the galaxy as well as back and forth in time, nothing takes you there like a good book.
Good list. I just finished Hemingway's "The Old Man and The Sea". Loved it.
So many books, so little time!
Love your choices. I loved Mitchner's "The Source" as well.
