Introduction:

Vegetable gardening is one of the most popular American past times, thanks to the economy and the need to save money wherever we can. Gardening does not require expensive equipment or designer labels. These inexpensive tools will handle almost every task in the garden.

Rake

Rakes are used to clean up leaves, leveling planting beds and for removing rocks and debris from the soil. Garden rakes are typically made of sturdy steel or aluminum to easily plow through the soil. Lawn rakes are the flimsier type of rakes used to clean up grass cuttings and leaves without damaging the lawn.

Hoe

Garden hoe is useful for tilling the soil before planting and for weeding between plants later on in the season. Using a hoe to weed removes the top growth of weeds, but does not disturb the soil or roots of your plants.

Spade

A garden spade is used to dig and turn soil and for breaking up clumps of dirt and clay. It is also useful for putting compost into the garden.

Trowel

Hand trowels are probably the gardeners best friend. They allow you to prepare small holes for transplanting seedlings and for jobs where a garden spade is too large.

Kneeling Pad

A kneeling pad is a definite must for every gardener. It will cushion and protect your knees while you are planting, weeding and doing other jobs in the garden.
