Losing weight isn't easy at any age, but much more difficult when you are over 40. It seems to me that it gets more difficult each year to take a couple of pounds off. Here are a few ways to burn more calories throughout your day.
Walking is a great way to burn calories, but don't just walk at the same pace each day. Also, taking the same route each day can get boring. Change up your route and add a little extra mileage each week to burn more calories.
Increase your speed and even take a sprint or two as you walk to burn additional calories. The extra effort speeds up your body's efforts to burn those hard to lose calories. Move your arms as you walk to also add some resistance and also burn more calories.
Do you enjoy watching television at night or checking the status of your facebook friends every day? Sit on an exercise ball as you do either activity and work it! You can work legs and abs while sitting on an exercise ball just by motions going side to side and front to back. Don't worry about falling off, you will quickly get the hang of it!
If you work in a building that has multiple stories, get in the habit of taking the stairs instead of the elevators. This is also a good exercise for breaks or lunch. Add an additional flight to your routine as time goes on and you strengthen your muscles.
Don't let work be your excuse for not getting any exercise. You can get in some work out moves at work! Get up and take a walk to the water fountain/restroom/wherever several times a day. You can also do a few quick push ups off the wall in your office or restroom to get blood flowing. If nothing else, stand up and stretch!
Routine is the key to exercise. Getting in the habit and sticking to it will do your body a world of good. Same goes for nutrition. Hand in hand they work together for optimal health.
Wonderful ways to help burn more calories. I have started to do stretches in my office chair while working too. No one notices either.
