St. Patrick's Day is a great holiday to honor St. Patrick, celebrate the Irish, become "Irish for a day," and drink, dance, party, and be merry. A great way to celebrate on St. Patrick's Day is to watch movies. This list of movies is directed at women as it is the list of the top five St. Patrick's Day Chick Flicks. Enjoy!
Starring Amy Adams, "Leap Year" tells the story of a woman who decides to follow an Irish family tradition and propose to her boyfriend in Ireland on leap year day. It's not based on St. Patrick's Day? So what! It is still about Irish heritage, it includes lush Irish scenery, and there happens to be a handsome Irish man who comes into our heroine's life to stir things up a bit. It's a great movie! So gather the girls and watch "Leap Year" this St. Patrick's Day.
Set in Ireland in the 1950's, "Circle of Friends" tells the story of a group of friends, their struggle to "come of age," the strains on their friendships, and of course, their romantic adventures. It's a great chick flick to watch on St. Patrick's Day!
Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise star in "Far and Away" as two Irish immigrants, from very different backgrounds, who come to America together and try to make their dreams come true. Though it is not set in Ireland, the fighting Irish spirit comes through, both in the way that the characters fight for their dreams and survival, and in the way that they fight their love for each other sometimes. It's really a great chick flick for St. Patrick's Day.
John Wayne stars as a man with a tragic past who returns to Ireland and ends up falling in love with a beautiful, passionate, and strong-willed Irish woman. This movie is great because it has drama, comedy, romance, drinking, and a very long fight scene; it's perfect for St. Patrick's Day!
"Once" is a beautiful modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they meet, and then write, rehearse and record songs together. It is a great chick flick movie for St. Patrick's Day because it is set in Ireland, was really made in Ireland, and it is a great, untraditional, love story that will leave you moved.
Another great St. Patrick's Day chick flick is "P.S. I Love You."
