A flower press can be bought from a craft shop or made at home with two pieces of wood and a few screws. Use it to dry fresh flowers while keeping colors and shapes intact.
Small quantities of fresh flowers can be safely preserved by drying them in a microwave oven to remove moisture. However, the flowers will not retain their shape or color.
This is the oldest way to preserve fresh flowers. Small bunches of flowers are wrapped with an elastic band and hung upside down to dry away from steam and excess light.
These crystals remove the moisture from flowers but keep the color and shape perfectly. Silica gel crystals are expensive, but they can be used multiple times to preserve large quantities of fresh flowers, especially for decorative purposes.
Preserve fresh flower petals and buds by spreading them on top of a wire rack used for cooling cakes and cookies and letting them thoroughly dry in a warm room.
