Are you stressed-out, burned-out, out-of-balance? If this is true, what did you do for yourself today? Read on, the powerful benefits of 'Me' time may surprise you.
When we fail to make ourselves a priority, we invite stress into our lives. "Me" time takes us outside ourselves and into the flow. Whether we putter around doing no particular thing, thinking nothing in particular or meander outside observing the beauties of nature, we remove ourselves from obligations and demands of doing for others.
To believe we are worthy, we must treat ourselves in a worthy manner. Wise women schedule regular pampering time. Martyrs believe they must manage the universe. Have you always wanted a pedicure? Schedule it, right beside car pools, dental appointments and grocery shopping.
Are you afraid to meet the inner-person you call "me"? Try taking a slow down day and spend time with the precious person that you are. Doodle, journal or daydream. Concentrate on simple pleasures like browsing through an old photograph album. Don't just look at, really see the person you were before a husband, kids and obligations consumed your private time. Isn't she wonderful? What happened to her?
Scientists say our sense of smell is the most highly developed of the five senses. What aroma do you smell in your home right now? Coffee, potpourri or lemon furniture polish? What about your back yard? Move about and smell those flowers! Touch their delicate petals. Taste something - cinnamon direct from the spice jar or spicy mustard from the tip of your finger. What do you see? Are there memories connected with the picture hanging above the mantle? Awakening of senses gives us a giant infusion of energy.
What personal pleasure did you formerly enjoy? You know the one thing that makes you purr like a contented kitten. Where did you put away your passion? Experiment with baking a cake from scratch; get out your sketchbook and paint a self portrait with pastels; open a book and write down 10 words from a random page - write a poem using the words.
Time to take good care of Self is not a luxury; it is a creative necessity. As difficult and necessary as it is to allot 'Me' time, we owe it to ourselves to snatch nurturing benefits when and where we can.
Excellent list, thank you so much for all this wonderful advice. H5!
Your tips to taking care of me are so vital. If we don't do the good activities for your inner self we won't have enough energy to keep doing for others as we have to do. thank you for all the thoughtful suggestions you presented so well.
