"Ugly Betty" was a television show, based on the Colombian telenovela "Yo Soy Betty La Fea," that ran on ABC from 2006 to 2010. It starred America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, a young writer looking for a big break who ended up working in New York City at the (fictional) top fashion magazine, "Mode."
When "Ugly Betty" ended, many fans (including me!) were left feeling like they wanted more; more answers, more drama, more "Ugly Betty!" So many fans (including me!) have hopes in their hearts that someday soon, there will be an "Ugly Betty" movie. Here are the top five reasons why I want an "Ugly Betty" movie.
When "Ugly Betty" ended, Betty had just accepted a job in London and was ready to start a whole new life there. I want to see her living that London life! While the television show of "Ugly Betty" showed her rising through the ranks at Mode and becoming a big shot in NYC, an "Ugly Betty" movie could easily show her making her way in London; and it would be AWESOME!
During the four seasons that "Ugly Betty" was on the air, most of Betty's time was spent working for Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius), the handsome, playboy son of Bradford and Claire Meade (Alan Dale and Judith Light); owners of Meade Publications and "Mode" magazine. Betty worked hard for Daniel, and the two of them became friends. But there was always something deeper between them, as they somehow had a way of understanding one another better than anyone else could. And in the series finale of "Ugly Betty," Daniel realized that he couldn't stand to live without Betty, so he gave up his job at "Mode," traveled to London, and found Betty just to ask her to dinner. But that was it! Fans wanted to see what happened at the dinner, what happened after, and honestly; they (I) wanted to see Betty and Daniel finally kiss! So, we need an "Ugly Betty" movie for that.
On "Ugly Betty," Marc St. James (Michael Urie) was the under-appreciated servant, I mean, assistant to fashion diva, vixen Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams). He had to help her with her evil schemes, take care of her day in and day out, and he rarely ever got to catch a break! (Even when he was promoted, he was still getting the short end of the stick most of the time.) So I want to have an "Ugly Betty" movie so that finally, something truly amazing and wonderful can happen to poor Marc. I mean... he deserves it!
The cast for "Ugly Betty," in my opinion, is one of the best casts in television history! America Ferrera was amazing at playing Betty, and the supporting cast members around her were all stellar. Some of my personal favorites include her Latina Diva, hairdresser sister Hilda (Ana Ortiz), her incredibly talented and fashion forward, gay nephew, Justin (Mark Indelicato), and her sort-of friend, front desk assistant turned stylist, Amanda (Becki Newton). As a hardcore "Ugly Betty" fan... I just really want to see them all again!
"Ugly Betty" was an entertaining television show full of great characters, interesting story lines, lots of intrigue, deep romances, high fashion, humor, and even crime! Tuning in each week was exciting and fun. The time always flew by when I watched each episode because they were all just that good! So they should make an "Ugly Betty" movie so that I can experience those same feelings of excitement and wonder on a MUCH larger scale. That would be amazing.
