You probably are wondering how there can be five spaghetti tips. Well, when you have cooked spaghetti as long as I have, secrets are known. I now share them with you.
When you cook spaghetti add a few drops of olive oil or other oil to the water. This will prevent the spaghetti from becoming so starchy and sticking or clumping in the pot. This can be added at the onset of your cooking or anytime before you put the spaghetti in the pot.
Boil the water before adding the spaghetti to the pot when cooking pasta. It is not necessary to have a rolling boil, but just so the water is boiling when you place the spaghetti in the water. This will prevent the spaghetti from clumping as well with the oil. Stir the spaghetti when adding it to the boiling water.
If you break the spaghetti in half before putting it in the boiling water, the strands get immersed in the water completely and cook faster. Stir them when you put them in the water. The broken spaghetti is more easily swirled on the fork when it is cooked and served to your family and guests.
Breaking the spaghetti in half will allow you to find many places to store your pasta. There are decorative tins of cookies that are just the right size to store the broken spaghetti in and keep it fresh.Consider taking the spaghetti out of the package after you bring it home from the store to keep it fresher.
Instead of wondering how much spaghetti to make for each person try this. Ask each person if they want a dime size, nickel size or quarter size portion of spaghetti. Most young children are good with dime size portion, toddlers are good with a nickels worth and adults can either eat one or two quarters worth of spaghetti. Make a circle the size of those coins with your thumb and index finger. These fingers will help you get the right amount for the serving for people. It will make it fun when you ask what size portion they want next time you serve spaghetti.
I love spaghetti! Great list!!!
Thank you for sharing this. I knew about the oil, but not breaking the spagetti. H5
Awesome tips, love your measuring technique!
Isn't it wonderful when good cooks share their knowledge? I'd never heard of measuring amounts with coins. When it's spagetti, make mine a silver dollar! HI5
I also put a boil disc in the pot to keep it from spilling over. Thanks for the list. H5
