The American Triple Crown of horse racing is when a horse wins the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes, from 1919 to 2011 only 11 horses have done this.
Sir Barton was the first horse to win the American triple crown of horse racing, which he did in 1919. Back then the races were not even recognized as the Triple Crown.
War Admiral was famous for winning the triple crown in 1937 and for being the rival of Sea Biscuit. War Admiral raced on the east coast, and Sea Biscuit on the west coast. When they finally did race each other, it was Sea Biscuit who won.
Secretariant won the triple crown in 1973 and was a fan favorite for years to come. He was also very good as a sire, with over 600 foals, although none were ever as good as he was.
Seattle Slew won the triple crown in 1977. His claim to fame was that he had also been the only triple crown winner who was previously undefeated.
Affirmed won the triple crown in 1978. He was the great great grandson of War Admiral. Additionally he sired Peteski, who went on to win the Canadian Triple Crown.
There have been no winners since 1978? Will 2012 bring a new winner of the Triple Crown? I'll Have Another, seems to be trying, only time will tell.
I have a true interest in horses and the horse races. Great list.h5
