Short of barking and peeing on fire hydrants, this playful breed is full of dog-like joy and energy. Here are five reasons Tonkinese cats are just like dogs.
Tonks love to play! Throw your Tonkinese his favorite toy and he'll chase it down and bring it back to you like an eager puppy. They will also wrestle with each other to "claim" their toys similar to a pair of dogs.
Unlike some other cats, who are more solitary creatures, Tonkinese cats live for human companionship. They will find the warmest empty lap in the room in an instant, and they love playing with people and being petted.
Barking can be loud and obnoxious. Meowing is just cute! Tonks enjoy voicing their (very definitive) opinions on any subject. Mine will sometimes call me from another room if he's too lazy to walk over to me and find me. Yeah, I guess he's a little spoiled...
Speaking of spoiled, Tonkinese cats can throw fits and make messes just to get some human attention. Like a dog chewing on slippers or even a child acting out, these clever cats will do anything to get the attention and affection of their owners. Mine will push things off of the counter with his nose, and once I actually did catch him chewing up my fluffy slippers because he thought they were toys!
If a Tonkinese is raised with dogs, he will most likely get along very well with them. My Tonk thinks our dogs are his best playmates, and he will wrestle them for toys, drink from their water bowl, and sleep with them in their dog beds. Just make sure you have a dog who will be gentle when playing.
To buy a kitten, you will have to find a reputable breeder, but Tonks make great companions and are incredibly friendly and loving. Bonus points for the lack of smelly fur and beautiful blue eyes.
Great list. H5
These sound like the cat to have ... thanks for posting! I like "dog" cats!
Sounds like you know your Tonkinese cat traits. Fun read and I am a cat lover. Well, a total animal lover.
Never heard of Tonkinese cats. I have a rescued cat who lives within a pack of 6 dogs and doesn't know he's not one of them. He actually does tricks alongside his dog pals.
These are some interesting facts about Tonkinese cats. Wish I did not have allergies to them.
Enjoyed your facts about the Tonkinese. Siamese cats have always owned me. Looks like they may be related. Also if I'm not wrong, the "ese" cats are the only ones with blue eyes.
Great list! I'm really not a cat person, so getting a cat that acts like a dog would be great!
Haha they can look a little like aliens sometimes, but no, they don't need to be walked :)
If they look like your avatar, they look kinda scary, but that's just one picture. If they really do act like dogs, I'm all for it...I love dogs! Do they need to be walked as well? If not, that would a huge advantage over dogs.
