Michigan comes in at number one on our top five blueberry growing states due to their Highbush Blueberry production. Blueberry season typically lasts from July through October in this state which produces over 20 varieties.
Maine also places in the top five blueberry growing states. Maine boasts 60,000 acres of naturally grown berries, which is a major contributor to their economy.
New Jersey, where the blueberry is the official state fruit! In 2005 New Jersey produced a grand total of 45 million pounds of blueberries on 7,500 acres!
Oregon weighs in on the top five blueberry growing states with a whopping $47.2 million pounds of total harvest for 2009. Oregon has been showing a steady increase since 2003.
Last but not least of our top five blueberry growing states we have Georgia. In 2004 more than 200 growers planted around 5,500 acres. In 2003 Georgia estimated a value of $18.7 million in blueberry production.
