Working as a full-time, part-time, or free-time freelance writer is hard work. In my opinion, writing should also be fun work. So here I present my list of the top five writing websites to make money on, which is based not only on the amount of money that you can bring in, but also on the quality of the experience that you get from each website. So here they are, the top five writing websites to make money on:
List My Five is my personal favorite writing website for residual income because I love writing lists (and LM5 is all about top five lists), I can be super creative with my list writing, the LM5 community is super supportive and kind, and I started making "payout" on List My Five within the first two months of being on the website! Wow! Plus, I love that I can win awards for achieving things on LM5. It keeps me motivated! (The biggest honor is definitely a front page feature though.) Basically, I love List My Five and I am making money on List My Five. So that's why it's number one.
Squidoo has not made me as much money as the other sites on this list of writing websites, but it is such a fun website to write for! On Squidoo, to make money writing online you create Lenses. These lenses are like multimedia presentations as opposed to a traditional article. For example, in lenses, you can have text, links, photos, videos, shopping guides, widgets, and more, all in one place! It's pretty awesome. Plus, Squidoo offers points, awards, rewards, and more for meeting goals, doing great work, or following "quests." AND they make it super easy to donate some (or all) of your royalties to charities that you support!
Bukisa brings in a lot more traffic than I once thought, and writing for Bukisa is easy and fun. Really! Basically, you just write about stuff that you know about, publish it, promote it, and then sit back and let it all make money for you. I would say, for Bukisa (as well as for most writing websites), aim at having somewhere between 100 and 200 articles at least if you want to see good money coming in.
Associated Content is now a part of the Yahoo Contributor Network (as I found when I went to sign in to AC one day.) Truth is, I never really got into writing online for AC, but with its sleek design, user-friendly website, and plethora of job offers, Yahoo Contributor Network has won me over. Within my first week as a contributor, I had already earned money. That gave me a lot of hope to keep going and keep writing for Yahoo Contributor Network.
Like Squidoo, Hubpages offers options that an "average" online article would not have: Hubpages has "hubs" with pictures, links, in-text ads, Amazon shopping links and ads, etc. Hubpages is a little more strict with how things have to be done though so spammers and constant self-promoters... don't even try! The community here is really nice, and as long as you read and follow the Terms of Service you will have a great time writing for Hubpages. Making money here is hard for me, but I figure I just need more "hubs."
Other great sites include: Suite101, InfoBarrel, Examiner.com, All Voices, Demand Studios, and Triond.
Thanks for the list
Wonderful places to write.
I love all 5 of these sites! I am tinksmagic on each of them as well and I love meeting new people if anyone would like to follow me. I do more on Squidoo I think than each of the other 4 sites, but there are so many great sites out there, it's almost impossible to do them all.
Thanks for the list, List my 5 is my first writing website so this is good information :)
Great list of writing websites! I love AC especially since I can make a few cents just posting some pictures.
Good list. It is interesting to see where others write. I cannot seem to get the hang of Squidoo. I do well on AC and Helium.
I am a Featured Contributor at Associated Content from Yahoo, and I of course write here at LM5. I have never tried your other 3, but do write at Factoidz and Helium.
Online writing can bring in a good income, but it is work, just like any other job. Only thing is, I love to write, so it makes it fun too!
Thanks for the suggestions of writing websites. Looks like lots of opportunities to expand my horizons.
This was so helpful! I'm just starting to freelance write, so I'll be sure to check out some of these sites.
Thanks for this informative list. I'm not confident enough to make hubs or lenses, but lists, I'm with you. I write for AC also. It's a slow but sure money maker.
