Keep your Social Security Card in a safe place in your home. Never take your social security card with you when you walk out of the house. Memorize your Social Security Card number in case you need it, and then hide it in safe place in your house or put it into your safety deposit box in your bank. Never give your Social Security Card number to anyone, unless you know them. The numbers on your Card hold the data of your entire life.
Save the Birth Certificate in a place where you can get it if you need it. There are many times in your lifetime when you be asked to show it. This will be needed when you enroll your child in school, or when you vote, in order to prove you are an American Citizen. This is important especially now when the police are able to pull over a drive who looks like they were not born in the United States due to illegal entry of those who cross the border from another country. Better to be safe than sorry. Keep a copy of your Proof of Citizenship if you truly are not a United States citizen, or do not look like you are.
If a loved one dies you will need to have proof of this. A Death Certificate will enable you to open his or her safety box, file income tax, receive the money in a safety deposit box, or receive the money put aside for you in a joint bank account. A Death Certificate is an accurate proof of death and multiple copies should be made. The original can be in a safety deposit box, and the copies kept in a safe place in your house. You will need it when the Will is read, or when you need proof of death for the Social Security Office.
This is required at all airports. If someone has stolen it from you they might be able to use it. Once you are in a foreign country you will be required to show it at the airport or you might not be allowed to fly back home. Those who travel a great deal, should keep it in a safe place in the house. Otherwise, it can be placed into your Safety Deposit Box in the bank.
