I can take or leave turkey. Thanksgiving is usually the only day of the year I eat and/or prepare turkey. But I do enjoy the side dishes that come along with the bird. These are my top five favorite Thanksgiving dinner side dishes.
It ain't Thanksgiving without the green bean casserole! Just mix together some green beans and mushroom soup in a deep dish, top with crispy french fried onions and bake till bubbly hot. I may have left out a few ingredients but you can find several variations on this recipe below in resources.
Whatever you call it at your house, this bread based side dish never disappoints. There are a variety of ways to prepare stuffing/dressing. Check out the resources below and choose an old favorite or be daring and try a new recipe this year!
These orange spuds are a must have accompaniment on the fourth Thursday in November. I like mine simply baked in tin foil and topped with sour cream and butter. Others prefer the candied version topped with molasses, nuts, marshmallows or other sweet morsels.
I know this may be carb-overload when eaten with the sweet taters but you gotta have both. I make mine with some minced garlic, margarine, salt and pepper and a splash of half and half for creaminess. If there's any leftovers, you can turn them into potato pancakes the next day.
Baby carrots or full size carrots can be prepared several ways. Try a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon for a sweet treat or just steam them until fork tender and salt/pepper to taste to cut back on calories and sugars.
I'm looking forward to preparing all of these and a few more this Thanksgiving. Wishing you countless blessings to be thankful for and a table full of your favorite side dishes in the company of family and friends.
Great side dished for Thanksgiving type dinners.
