With the holidays we are always trying to find ways to entertain the children and crafts have always worked in my family. They don't have to be hard or costly. Most times the older kids help the younger ones so adult supervision can really be limited.
I know you have all done this and every year thousands of children put their hand in paint and then put it on a piece of construction paper to make a turkey. The great thing is there are thousands of possibilities you can do with this. You can take all the family members hands on one paper and make a turkey family. Or put the names on the back and have the adults guess who's hand is who's. Or keep them threw the years and hang them up each year to see how much their hand has grown.
Have a big poster board and lots of magazines and newspapers. Let the children cut out things that they are thankful for or draw their own. Once finished place on wall for all to see, if done before dinner and it's a tradition of yours to say what you are thankful for this could help the little ones. They can go over and point to the one or ones they did.
Pine cone turkeys are fun to do and make cute gifts. Once you have the pine cones gathered, up all you need to do is cut out feathers, eyes, and beaks out of construction paper and glue onto the pine cone. You can also use sticks as legs and feet if you want to get more creative. Once done you can set them up around the house or take them to a nursing home or hospital and give as gifts.
Making your own table cloth is fun and very inexpensive. You take a white vinyl table cloth (you can get at the dollar store) and place it on a hardwood floor or table. Let the kids decorate it with felt markers. They can draw thanksgiving and fall things on it or write what they are thankful for. They can also paint it but that would have to be done at least 24hours in advance.
This is so easy to do and kids will love to see their work on the dinner table. All you do is take empty toilet paper roll and simply cut it in half. Let the children decorate them with construction paper, leaves, string or whatever you might have. Once dry let the children put the napkins in them and place them on the table.
What a nice Thanksgiving craft list. h5
