Emotional health refers to your psychological well-being which in turn leads to a better physical well being. Refer to these techniques whenever you feel like you could use an emotional boost.
People who have large social circles of friends and family tend to live longer and happier lives than people who are not socially connected. This is a way to stay emotionally healthy at any age. Pick a topic you are interested in and join a club or social network with similar people.
Another way to stay emotionally healthy is to avoid black and white thinking. Taking absolute words out of your vocabulary (words like always, never, everything, nothing) and replacing them with 'shades of grey' words (such as sometimes, once in a while) can help stave off depression and keep you emotionally healthy.
Like the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining. Whenever you find yourself in a negative situation, force yourself to find at least one good thing about it. If you need to, write them down on paper. Do not dwell on situations you cannot control, instead, focus on what you can do to improve the situation or your attitude about it.
The benefits of laughing include dissolving tense situations, it stimulates the release of the feel good chemical dopamine into your brain, improves your mood and shifts your outlook towards the positive. Watch a funny movie if you need a boost.
Throughout the day, consciously ask yourself, "How am I feeling right now?" If you feel stressed, negative, depressed or angry, find the root cause and take actions to resolve the situation. You will also start to notice what situations make you feel good so you can do these more often.
