Introduction:I used to work in a small mom-and-pop fast food restaurant where I grilled chicken, hot dogs, and hamburgers. It was hard work, but I learned a lot from that experience. One of these was how to make the best hamburgers.
There are many ways to cook a hamburger pattie. My personal favorite is to grill it. There's just something about the flame-broiled taste that's irresistible. It's the same reason why I prefer a Whopper over a big mac.
Next to the meat, perhaps the second most important consideration is the bread spread. One of the reasons why the Big Mac is so popular is because of the spread. When I used to work at a fast food restaurant, we used to make our own spread using a mixture of mayonnaise, Thousand Island dressing, and sugar. It sounds fattening but the taste was mouth wateringly fantastic!
When making a hamburger, you want to make sure you get a set of good buns. Don't get ones that are thick and heavy. You also don't want to get ones that are too light and will fall apart. Get buns with sesame seeds on top - they provide a nice flavor.
One of the condiments I like to put in my hamburgers is mushrooms. Grilled mushrooms with cheeze are heaven. They just melt in your mouth and make you feel like you've lived a good life. The earthy flavor of the mushrooms go well with the hamburger meat.
Although I like lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles in my hamburger, I can potentially do without all of these and still enjoy the burger. But I absolutely cannot do without onions, preferably red onions. The texture and heat from the onions provide a nice contrast to the grilled meat. The combination is addictive.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries and a great local burger place, 96th Street Steakburgers in Indianapolis, use some sort of spread that is heated into the bun. I haven't had it, but many people say it's yummy!
Mushrooms on a burger is underrated but brings out a different flavor, I love it!
