Introduction:

I'm having great fun on Squidoo, but see that some people shy away from it. Here are some reasons they give for not using Squidoo.

It's a Scam

Some people make a lens (web page) or two on Squidoo and go away disappointed that they didn't become an overnight millionaire. "It's a scam," they say.

Here's the reality - you can make money on Squidoo but it takes a lot of work and there's a lot to learn first.

It's Spammy

Lenses on Squidoo look spammy if they don't have a good balance of ads and content. If someone visits the site and sees a few of these it gives them a bad impression.

Here's the reality - Squidoo is pretty diligent to clear out the weight-loss pills and such get-rich-quick malarky. Most readers won't stay around to buy on such a lens, so they are a waste of time to create.

Make one that has solid information and it has a much better chance of earning. Look around at the genealogy, hobby, history, craft and tribute lenses to see non-spammy lenses.

It's Only Good For Backlinks

Some people think they will never earn on Squidoo, so they just throw up a quickie lens to provide a backlink to their blog or other content on the Internet.

Here's the reality - Squidoo gets indexed well by Google. Many lensmasters who started out using it for backlinks, switched to putting more content on Squidoo when they saw the traffic they were getting.

Only Tier One Lenses Earn Anything

Some think that tier one is too hard to achieve and otherwise the site is a waste.

There are two million lenses (web pages) on Squidoo and the top tier or top 2000 lenses make $25 or more a month. Tier two and three earn much less and if you are ranked over 100,000 then you earn nothing in the revenue sharing.

Here's the reality - If you have a large number of tier two and three lenses, the dollars and cents add up. You can also earn if those lenses are selling products (Amazon and eBay).

Squidoo Is Only For Sellers

Some writers think that they don't want to write ad copy and that Squidoo is just for selling things.

Here's the reality - Squidoo is a wonderful place to create web pages for an author, for a memorial/tribute page, informational pages for your club or community or school and many other personalized content. I've been quite pleased creating genealogy pages on Squidoo.

Virginia, I am working on building up Squidoo. It is coming slowly, because of family time, but I am learning and plan to keep on chuggin along. I always enjoy your articles they are very helpful and easy to understand. H5

:) I thought Squidoo looked spammy at first, too, but after reading some praise for it on here I decided to try it. Now I'm addicted. ^^ You're totally right; it's like anything in life, you get out what you put in, hehe.

I'm so settled with Squidoo now, that my dashboard is the first place I go now when I log on, whereas it used to be eHow. I love writing on Squidoo and highly recommend it to everyone. Thanks for clearing up some things for those who doubt. H5
