Grey African parrots tend to bond to usually one person in the family. They are very protective and will bite anyone else who they do not recognize.
Grey Africa parrots can live to be an amazing sixty years old. They are lifetime companions and are a never easy to get bored of.
These pets are one of the most talkative of the parrots. They are able to learn over one thousand words and even know the meaning of some!
Grey African parrots are said to have the mind of a five year old. They are curious and intelligent animals that are always fun to be around.
These parrots are medium sized. They are called grey African parrots because they have a grey body and a red or sometimes maroon colored tail.
Great list.
I've known several people that have had these as pets and most would agree they're worth the money and efforts. high5
I lost my African Grey in December! He was the best bird in the world. He loved me as much as I loved him. Congratz on getting the front page, but I'm with George, I would NEVER encourage ANYONE to get this type of pet. They demand a lot of time, and need an owner that has the time to train them. They can be the most vicious birds, and what kind of life that vicious bird would have stuck in a cage for life just talking?
There was a small African Grey that traveled with a parrot pack in Orange County, CA. There are dozens of the more common green parrots and they all fly in a flock between several neighborhoods and squawk up a storm. Years ago the flock had several who said a few words and whistled, undoubtedly escaped pets (or pets released into the wild, as George Sommers notes). They're pretty neat. I'd wait for them to show up in my neighbor's trees. 60 years is quite a commitment to make for pet care!! Nice informative list!
Thank you for the encouragement for people to consider this pet. Congratulations on the front page.
Good info, but I agree with George, too. Congrats!
Great list.
Good reasons for owning one, but I'd suggest you write a follow-up on the reasons to NOT own a grey - or ANY parrot. Many people don't do their research, impulsively buy birds because they hear of all these good reasons and when the novelty wears off, they dump them. The unwanted bird problem in this country is a big one - and way underreported as compared to the unwanted dog and cat problem.
The African Grey Parrot sounds like a really good pet to have.
You make it sound so awesome to own an African Grey Parrot. High Five!
I'd love to get an African Grey Parrot, but I need more room in my house for a cage.
