You can expect to have your Papillon for 16 years.

Lifestyle

Take a close look at what your lifestyle is which will allow the Papillon dog to join in your family activities. It is not fair to the dog if you are a sedentary person who will not be giving the dog the lifestyle they need to stay healthy. If you travel a lot by plane, your Papillon is small enough to go under your passenger seat . They like to be included in the family events.

Size

Weight of the Papillon is small. It can range from 7 to 16 pounds. This dog breed originated in France and placed in the toy group of the spaniel type dog breeds.

Exercise

Every dog needs a daily pack walk. Papillon dogs are very energetic and can walk up to 5 miles in spite of their small stature. As a pet owner you will quickly learn this breed is an athletic one.

Temperament

The powerfully sensitive and people loving dog is extremely able to perceive emotional needs of their master. Treat this and all dogs with gentleness rather than a stern voice since they respond well to a soft command. They have a joyful, playful and intelligent nature. With their intelligence, your Papillon has a lot to offer in performing tricks and will win great awards at dog shows. To watch a Papillon weave, jump, scramble by handler's verbal and hand commands will astound everyone watching. Conformation and agility are truly show stoppers for this spry dog. They are a joy to own because of an even temperament and willingness to learn from a patient pet owner.

Physical

Papillion dogs have a trade mark butter-fly like ears with copious amounts of fringe easily flowing even when the dog is standing still. The colors of this breed are numerous: brown/white, black, red and white, black/brown and white, fawn and white, black/tan,red, fawn, white with sable, red/white and sable, white with lemon, white and silver, white with liver,white with red, white along with other combinations as well. The nose,lips and eye lids are trimmed with black creating a painted look. The round, dark eyes present a pensive dog look. The paw pads can be pink or black. The entire muzzle is tapered almost to a point. Tails of the Papillon are long, feather-like, with flowing hair and carried with dignity over the back of the dog.




Final Thoughts

Grooming is not a difficult task when you own a Papillon. Daily gentle brushing keeps this average shedding dog to a minimum. Nail clipping and teeth cleaning are recommended to maintain pet wellness.
