You can sew a simple cloth headband in less than 10 minutes with these easy steps.
You will nee a number of items including: fabric, marking pencil, elastic, scissors, tape measure and of course a sewing machine. The best part about making this headband is that you can use any type of fabric you want.
You will first want to measure and cut your fabric. To do this accurately place a piece of fabric around your head to measure the accurate measurements. This piece should go just below your ears. The width of this piece depends on how thick or thin you want your headband to be. When making mine I cut it about 3 inches wide, knowing that the final product will be thinner. You also want to cut a second piece. This piece should be the same width as the other piece and should measure between 10 to 13 inches in length, depending on the size you are making. Use your marking pencil and your tape measure and cut out these two pieces.
You can now pin the larger piece of fabric over slightly. You will want to pin the edges about a quarter or a half inch wide. The smaller piece should be flipped inside out and pinned that way. Sew the edges and remove the pins to secure.
Turn your smaller piece of fabric inside out and insert the elastic through. This will probably be the most difficult part of your project. Secure the elastic by sewing each end.
You can now finalize your cloth headband. Fold the larger piece over the smaller piece and sew them together on both sides. You now have a cloth headband to wear! You can make different colors and widths to match your outfit or make a matching one for your child.
