Resarch has shown that Americans are the most stressed and overworked. In addition, Americans take the least amount of vacations compared to Europe. Stress effects everyone in different ways and there comes a point in your life when you have to sit down and ask yourself if your job is making you miserable. Job Burnout can have serious consequences. Therefore, if you are experiencing any of the signs below, then it's time to make a change.
Monday roles around, and you are asking is it Friday yet? We all experience the Monday Morning Blues. This has to do with the way our bodies adjusts after having a 2 day break from the hustle and bustle of a busy work week. Usually, people adjust by Tuesday or the infamous Hump Day (Wednesday). However, experiencing that is completely different from having anxiety every Sunday because you know the next day you have to go back to work. The stress has built up so much overnight that then when Monday comes you are so worked up, your body completely crashes.
One sign of job burn out is this: your boss annoys you, your co-workers annoy you. Everything about the job just annoys you. You are irritable and on edge all the time.
Happy hour just can not come soon enough. You find yourself drinking daily after work, perhaps you may even sneak in a cocktail at lunch hour. In your mind drinking helps you cope with the stress and anxiety you are feeling at the office.
Nothing makes sense to you. You are having difficulty staying on task. Your boss may complain that your assignments are being submitted late or submitted with erroneous data.
It's 7 am on a Monday morning, you call in sick. That same week, perhaps Thursday, you call in sick again. Then before you know it you are missing work 4 times a month. It is possible that the stress has caused you to actually become sick.
This list is by no means an extensive one. However, you should be clear of the warning signs of Job Burnout. Stress effects everyone differently and only you know how much more you can handle. Ask yourself is it time to finally move on from my current job?
