To me, music can be therapy. There are certain songs that are guaranteed to bring me joy, no matter what. Others that I listen to when I'm feeling contemplative or sad. And then there are the songs that I listen to (or think really loudly in my head) when I need to vent a little steam. That's what this list is for.
(I also broke my foot yesterday and am feeling a bit mad at the world right at the moment, which is probably why this topic came into my brain today.)
If you'd told me a year ago that a Christian rock band would produce my number one anger management song, I would have thought you were crazy. But then I heard them play it live, in concert, and thought: this is the best song to hum when you're mad ever! Because sometimes, you just really want to tell people, no, it's *not* me, it's definitely you.
This is the first My Chem song that I ever fell in love with, and it came to me at a point in my life when I was dealing with grief and anger, and somehow just being able to repeat the I'm Not Okay lyrics in my head while keeping a strong front made life a whole lot easier to deal with.
I think that Fall Out Boy stopped trying to be the standard bearers of the disaffected youth (they may have relinquished that crown to My Chemical Romance), but this song, off their most recent CD, is totally worth a listen when you're feeling mad. Because sometimes you just want to scream "I don't care!" and if you're singing along with this song, you can!
Sometimes we all want to embrace our inner 13 year old (or inner two year old), and this song pretty much says everything there is to say on the subject. Plus, it's really fun to sing along to in the car.
The video for this song is amazing and makes me laugh (...and also think that sometimes bands have just too much time on their hands on the road), but when the song is this catchy and fun, I really can't complain!
