Things You Shouldn't Buy from a Dollar Store

Introduction:

You can find great bargains at your local dollar store but there are some items that you should not purchase. Here are my top 5 suggestions for items to stay away from at your local dollar store.

Electric Items

Extension cords purchased at the dollar store are often poor quality and could actually be a fire hazard and dangerous when used. From personal experience, electrical items are something that you should purchase from any store other than a dollar store.

Toothpaste

Be careful when buying personal care products such as toothpaste from your dollar store. Many times they carry products that are made in foreign countries (the box is often not even in English) and the regulations for what ingredients are allowed are very lax compared to what is required in the United States.

Garbage Bags

Unless it is a name brand that you have heard of, most plastic garbage bags (and sandwich size bags) that are found in dollar stores are made of very poor quality plastic and you will need several to equal the quality of even a store brand bag found in your supermarket.

Band Aids

Band-aids are another item that you should not purchase at your local dollar store. Unless it is a name brand and you read the package to make sure that it is the same as a package you would get in your drugstore, band-aids from a dollar store are often a waste of cash because they don't stick to your skin.

Food

Be cautious when purchasing food items like crackers and canned goods. Many times they wind up on dollar store shelves because they are expired. Check the expiration date even if it is a name brand item.




Final Thoughts

Dollar stores can be a good way to save money but on these products, you are throwing your money away.
