One of the ways how to diet without having to go on a strict diet plan is to eat less. For instance, eating half a sandwich for lunch instead of a whole, skipping seconds for dinner, reducing the amount of carbohydrates you consume, and avoiding senseless snacking (like sugary snacks) in between meals are all ways how to eat less to get the body you want.
However, eating less does not mean to skip meals. To avoid hunger pangs while dieting, be sure to eat your breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

For fat loss, choose healthy foods to eat like fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meats, fresh fish, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole wheat, bran, and good oils like canola and olive oil.
There is nothing wrong with eating fatty foods, but if want to get thin, the smart way how to diet is to eat fatty foods in moderation. Better yet, simply avoid it if fat lose is your goal. However, if you must indulge in the fatty stuff every once in awhile, try to do so only on your diet cheat days.
Remember, think moderation.
If you are serious about getting thin and want permanent weight loss, then you must get up off the coach and move your body to burn fat. Regular exercise is key to losing weight fast and key to keeping the weight off long term for lasting results.
Fruit juices, soda, and alcohol are nothing, but empty calories because they're high in sugar and high in calories. Empty calories are just extra calories and if you don't want to gain weight from those "empty calories", then one of the easiest way how to diet to get thin is to opt for healthier beverages like water.
Water has 0 calories, 0 sugars, and 0 fat.
