Introduction:Most of the time we are going to get happy enough to dance off of some real Christmas music. It has to upbeat though. This is too grand of a holiday. Here are five crowd pleasures.............
Little Brenda Lee penned this back in the real day. "Rocking around the Christmas Tree at the Christmas Party Hop...." she sings. Everything was about Hops (dances) in those days; Bunny Hops, Sock Hops, Christmas Hops. Can't lose with this one even today!
Oh wow. This guy Bobby Helms really made a song good to dance to. Our school played it all the time around Christmas and I can still see us making an attempt to really dance! This song has just about everything for a Christmas party: it sets the mood, great beat, awesome delivery. I just love the lines "Gettie Up Jingle Horse pick up the speed..." The late Mr. Helms is now in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Sounds deserving to me.
The late, great Donny Hathaway is the only one that can do this one right. This song is so him! It hit the charts in around 1970. He was so new, had only done television commercials. This is another mood-setting, happy Christmas song that everyone should have for a party!
How many have heard of the Salsoul Ochestra. Well, they were a beautiful orchestra that made one of the most unique Christmas songs I've heard. It has a mellow, cheery beat and a line that says "Cause we're all just like children....come that one special day... singing yuletide carols, now that's the christmas way..." That's what its all about really or should be.
Charles Brown, the man that Ray Charles patterned his singing after was a pioneer in soulful-like blues. Merry Christmas Baby was so awesome to listen to or play at the party. To hear his comforting voice sing, it puts you right in the mood. It's slow and meaningful and as you listen you can feel as much childlike as you did when you were listening with your parents. Peace.
Really and truly a wonderful list! H5!
I was not aware that there were Christmas songs danceable. I find the topic very interesting, especially because it gives you even more joy and sprit of Christmas to a cause because consumerism is losing a lot of magic. Thanks
Fun and entertaining list of dance songs. Chrismas is a time for celebrating and dancing to your assorted songs.
Jingle Bell Rock is the classic dance number among Christmas songs. Great list, as usual.
