When the Chicken Soup for the Soul books first came out on June 28, 1993, I was a huge fan of these short story, feel good books. With over 200 titles and more than 100 million books published in 54 languages, there is a Chicken Soup for the Soul book for everyone. The original Chicken Soup for the Soul was compiled by motivational speakers Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield. As they searched for a title for this inspirational series, Jack Canfield had a vision of his grandmother saying that chicken soup could cure anything. And, the title Chicken Soup for the Soul was born.
This is the book that started the huge empire that Chicken Soup for the Soul is today. Filled with 101 stories in sections of 'On Love,' 'Learning to Love Yourself,' 'On Parenting,' 'On Learning,' 'Live Your Dream,' 'Overcoming Obstacles' and 'Eclectic Wisdom,' there's something for everyone in this first book of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
This is my one of my favorite books in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series as I'm a huge pet lover. With authors such as Barbara Bush, Gilda Radner, and James Herriot, the stories contained in Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul focus on the bond between all types of animals and humans. Pets give us so much in return for so little required from us.
Filled with 101 tear jerking stories which are strangely uplifting and encouraging, Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul is a must read for any woman, whether she's born children or not.
I gave this Chicken Soup book to my Dad for Father's Day one year. Although I never witnessed him reading it, I do know that it holds another 101 wonderful stories documenting the bond between fathers and daughters. I read a few chapters every time I went to Arizona to visit my folks.
Anyone who has the need to write, whether keeping a diary or publishing online work should have a copy of this Chicken Soup book. The subtitle of this book is 'Stories to open the heart and rekindle the spirit of writers' and it does just that with its 80 stories with authors like Sue Grafton, George Plimpton, Terry McMillan, and Ray Bradbury.
The Chicken Soup for the soul books are great readers if you just want a short session of perusing information, such as bathroom time. Most of the stories are short and sweet.
The entire Chicken Soup for the Soul series may be downloaded to any Kindle ereader device so you have no reason not to tote them along to fill down time. They're also one more good reason to give a Kindle to an elderly person as the books are filled with wonderfully inspirational tales and a Kindle can make the print larger to read.
I've decided that I will read some. I have never and I thank you for a delightful list!
Great books for quick reads, as you've said! Sort of an almost-endless- magazine to take along with one! Nice list with the best choices from the series!
I love the Chicken Soup books. Thanks for the post.
