There's a monster under my bed or a monster in my closet is a classic excuse that kids use. By claiming that they think their is a monster in their room gives them the chance to get out of bed and stay up past their bedtime.
Make sure your child goes to the bathroom right before bed to avoid this excuse. Many times kids will say they have to go to the bathroom just to be able to walk around and not sleep.
I'm sure every kid has gotten out of bed several times in his life because he just wanted one more sip of water. This is one of the most common excuses that kids use.
Many kids use the excuse that they can't sleep to get out of bed. Perhaps this may be a legitimate reason, however they still need to get the recommended amount of sleep for their age. Tell them to simply close their eyes and clear their mind.
Even though you just got done tucking your little one in they may run out of the bedroom with an excuse and ask to be tucked in again. This is a popular excuse kids use and may use several times a night.
