What do you do with your old books after you are done reading them. I don't know about you, but once I'm done reading a book I have no interest in reading them again. These books just sit on the shelf or worse yet in the basement collecting dust. Here are some places where you can donate your books or sell your old books for someone else to use them.
Goodwill Industries was first founded in 1902. It is a non-profit organization where people can donate their clothes, toys, household goods, furniture, toys and any other good sellable items. If you have books that you don't use anymore, why not consider helping Goodwill Industries out by donating your used books to them. Goodwill Industries will accept any of your used books that are geared to any age and any interest. You might as well let someone else read them while donating them to Goodwill Industries.
Your local public library will most likely be happy to accept your used books. Why not contact your local public library to see if they would take your used books that you no longer want. Use the attached link to find the phone number to your public library and either give them a call or stop in to see if you can donate your used books to them so that others can enjoy reading your books that you no longer can use.
Resale Stores are stores where you can either donate or sell your used clothes, toys, books and other household items to. Either look up the phone number in your local phone book or google the address and phone number to find the closest resale store to your house and see if they can use your books that you no longer can use. This way someone else can read your used books that you no longer are using.
Contact your local public schools and local parochial schools to see if you can donate your used books to them. I'm sure that both the elementary, middle and high schools would be happy to accept your used books that you no longer are using.
Check with your family and friends to see if they would like to read your used books that you no longer are reading. Perhaps some of their friends would love to read some of your used books that are just sitting around collecting dust.
It is amazing how much people learn from reading. Kids learn to love to read if they have been read to at a young age and if they have been encouraged to read at a young age. Studies show that people who read often are using their brain and typically become smarter. Their vocabulary improves and their brain takes more in. Studies also show that those who read books more often are able to concentrate more. Why not help kids learn more and donate your used books that you are no longer using to your local library, your local schools, family and friends, Goodwill Industries or to your local resale store. Help our kids become smarter by donating your books to them so that they can read books that they don't need to spend a lot of money on.
Good ideas. I need to do this.
I like how the places you list will put the books to good use - especially the schools and libraries. This is one of those great "think out side the box" lists. Instead of giving maybe a couple away and trashing the rest why not pass those old books on to where there might be a real need for them?
Unlike you, I cling to all my books, reading and re-reading them. However, most of mine are non-fiction, either spiritual or holistic medicine. But - these are wonderful ways to pass on books that people may not be aware of. HI5
I had a wonderful Brittanica encyclopedia set when I lived in Montana, that I could not give away to anyone.Your list will help others to donate books to worthwhile places.Thank you for this helpful list. h5
