This collection of mosquito repellants are all non-contact repellants - you don't have to put any chemicals on your skin. Don't let mosquitoes ruin your next outdoor activity; consider using one of these repellants to keep the bugs away.
Metofluthrin is the chemical ingredient in the OFF! Clip-On diffusers. In independent field tests, metofluthrin provided up to 100 percent protection against mosquitos. Metofluthrin has the highest level of protection for non-contact repellants.
Allethrin devices work by heating a pad soaked with the chemical allethrin. ThermaCell and OFF! both sell allethrin lamps. Allethrin units are effective for up to 15 feet from the heating device, and can keep up to 99 percent of mosquitoes away.
Geraniol is a mosquito repellant that is made from geraniums. The Koolatron company sells both diffusers and candles that contain geraniol. The diffuser works up to 10 feet away to repel 80 percent of mosquitoes. The geraniol candle does not work as well as the diffuser.
Linalool is an essential oil found in many plants and flowers. Linalool has a pleasant scent and is used in the majority of perfume and soap products on the market. Linalool diffusers repelled up to 58 percent of mosquitoes at a distance of 15 feet.
Citronella is a botanical repellent that is available in both candle and diffuser forms. As with geraniol, the diffuser works better than the candle. In controlled studies, citronella diffusers repelled 22 percent of mosquitos within 15 feet.
