Introduction:Writing for Demand Media Studios (DMS), formerly Demand Studios, isn't for everyone. Guidelines are strict, expectations are high and not everyone "gets in"--but there are many positive benefits to writing for Demand Media Studios.
I hear a lot of complaints about the "pickiness" of some Copy Editor's at DMS, but the truth is they are invaluable to writers. I love knowing that if I make a careless error, or a sentence comes out a bit convoluted, there is someone to catch it before it goes live.
When you write for Demand Media Studios, your audience is predetermined, depending on the format and category you choose to write in. Learning to write to a specific audience that may be outside of your typical realm builds your writing skills.
For writers who are accustomed to writing "off the top of the head", Demand Media Studios is a great place to learn how to do proper research and to attribute other's work properly. Learning to cite reputable sources builds your credibility as a writer.
Demand Media Studios expects writers to get right to the point without any fluff. Learning to weed out unnecessary verbiage, write in the active voice and substantiate statements equips writers to produce clear, concise prose that can be easily understood by all readers.
If you write for Demand Media Studios, you never face a lack of work. You may, however, need to step outside of your comfort zone and write on topics that you may not have considered before.
On top of all that, Demand Media Studios pays on time, every time. You don't need to wait until you reach "pay out" and you never need to guess what day your pay will come in.
