It happens to the best of us. We go along writing article after article, several articles a day and then we get up one morning and can't seem to write a single word. We find ourselves wondering if we simply have writer's block or if we are burned out. Here are five ways you can tell if you have writer's burnout.
You get up one morning set down to the computer to write and find yourself starting at a black screen and imagine the computer is trying to draw you into the world of cyberspace from which you will never return. You may actually run screaming from the room or simply sit there in fear waiting for the evil to take over your life.
You find yourself doing chores that don't need to be done simply to avoid getting close to the computer. I once made my bed three times in one day and washed all ready clean dishes just to avoid having to sit down and write.
That sentence of course is: I hate writing. I hate writing. or perhaps the variation of: I hate this computer. I hate this computer. I really hate this computer
When you normally are excited to get an article request from a client and then all of a sudden one day you see that request and your mind shouts. "No! No! Why me."
Yes, if you find yourself staring at that green on button hoping it suddenly goes blank and that it won't restart no matter what you try, you definitely have writers burnout.
The good news is most of us are addicted to writing so a few hours or a day away from this activity we love is enough to cure even the worst burnout and we are ready to once more pour forth the words that fill our mind and souls.
Good list.
I tend to get too many thoughts to write a clear article that is burnout for me I guess.
Well composed list.
These are indeed clues that a writer should take a vacation.
