Introduction:

Medicine comes in many forms.These tips will help you get your cat in better health with the medicine you need to give them with these tricks.

Pills

Tablets for cats are made small enough that with a little thought you can have that pill down them without too much trouble. The secrets are twofold to getting this accomplished. First is the planning you need to do and second is the element of surprise. Put a towel around your cat to stop the claws from getting you scratched. Coat the pill with some butter and gently open the mouth popping the pill down the throat.If you have another person to help hold the cat or give the pill it will be so much easier. It can certainly be done by one person since I have done this with several cats all by myself. After the pill is down their throat then let the cat and the towel down on the floor so the cat safely goes on his merry way.

Liquid

When cats like milk or catnip tea the liquid medicine can be put in that liquid. Put only enough liquid to conceal the medicine you have to give so you will know the cat gets the full dose. If it is not all consumed, remove and place down for the cat in about an hour or so.You can add a drop or two more of the milk or catnip tea. If it is a daily dose, keep offering until the liquid medicine and the liquid which has the medicine in it is all gone.If you do not have success with this method, put the liquid concealed in a small amount of moist catfood or some tuna. The secret here is to do this as soon as you believe your cat will eat it since when the medicine dispurses into the food he might not eat it.

Salve

While the cat is eating is a great time to apply salve to your pet cat. If the area is not reachable while they are eating apply the salve using these tips before you give the morning or afternoon food. Gather all your equipment first before getting the cat.Then when you are ready with towel and salve wrap the cat in a towel so the claws cannot scratch you. Make the area where the salve is needed available and apply with a gloved hand. Open the towel and let the cat leave your lap. Do this quickly and do not let the cat see the towel when you approach the cat. I leave my equipment hidden until I have the cat wrapped in the towel and am ready to apply the salve.

Flea Drops

Most cats don't get too upset with flea drops applied to the nape of the neck. Some cats just don't want you messing with them at all and will need these tips for applying flea medicine. While they are drinking water or eating food, separate the fur so you can clearly see some skin. Be ready to apply the flea medicine as soon as you have parted the fur. Wash you hands thoroughly after using the flea medicine just in case you have a drop or two on you. If you have any problems with this method, do the flea drops when they are sleeping. The secret is not to let the cat see anything different in your hand.

Capsules

The capsules generally cannot be opened for spreading in moist catfood. Ask your vet or the pharmacist or where ever you got the medicine from to make sure you can or cannot open the capsule for your pet feline. The secret to this form of medicine to get cats to take it is timing. Wait until the cat is a little hungry. Put a small amount of tuna from a can or moist catfood on a flat plate. Put the capsule down on that dab. Place a small amount of catfood on the top of that capsule of medicine. Make it a very small amount but just enough to cover the capsule making sure the capsule is coated with the tuna or catfood.

Final Thoughts

Cats are not difficult to get medicine to in oral or topical form. Just practicing will bring you success. A little is better than no medicine, but if you follow my instructions, you will get the proper dose of medicine no matter what. If you do not succeed, keep on trying since your cats health depends on that medicine.If you truly are not able to apply or give the medicine, go back to your vet. They might charge you a small fee for helping you with your pet cat to get the medicine to it.
