You can sew baby or toddler pants for your child easily using a shirt.
The first step is to gather your supplies. You will need a long or short sleeve shirt, fabric marker, scissors, elastic, sewing machine and a pair of pants to use as a pattern.
Lay your shirt on a flat surface and fold the pants lengthwise and place the pants on top of the shirt on the far right side. You will want the crotch area to be on the inside. Use a fabric marker to trace the pair of pants onto the shirt. Repeat the same thing on the other side of the shirt again making sure that the crotch area is on the inside. Now you will want to cut out the pattern that you have just traced. After cutting both sides, place the extra shirt aside and lay out the two pieces of fabric that you have just cut.
Lay the two pieces flat and on top each other by making sure that the sides you want to use on the outside are facing the inside for now. Pin together and sew the sides to secure them.
Once you have sewn the two sides pick up the pair of pants and adjust the position so the two seams are facing up and down instead of side to side. You will now be able to see the outline of the pants. To finish, sew the legs shut so the only open area is where the feet would go and at the waistline.
While the pants are still inside out, fold over the waistline about an inch thick and sew the entire way around, leaving about one to two inches open. This is when you will want to string through the elastic. After the elastic is in the pants, sew your opening shut. Turn your pants so they are right side out and they are finished!
Try these pants on your baby or toddler. These make very comfortable lounge pants. To see more detailed step by step instructions with pictures see the link below.
