Ways to Start a Blog Post to Grab a Readers Attention

Introduction:

Many bloggers lose readers from the opening of their post.If it's uninteresting the reader will then go to another site to read something else that's interesting.

Below are 5 ways to open your post that will capture the reader's attention and imagination to pull them deeper into your written content.

Use an Analogy, Metaphor or Simile

These are effective devices to capture the reader's attention and allows the reader to tell a story to themselves by provoking imagery or mental images.Alows you to tell a story with a single sentence.

Ask a Question

When you open a post with a question you pique their curiosity and gets the reader to think.Getting a reader to think gets them engaged in your writing and make them continue on to read the entire post.

Cite Shocking Statistics

Starting a post with an interesting factoid is a great way to get the reader interested in reader further.People love being provided with interesting data,but only if it is unique, startling,or shocking.

The statistic should also be directly relevant to the point of your post as well.

Engaging Reader's Imagination

Purposly engaging the imagination is a powerful opening technique.Activate the imagination of the reader by using words like "imagine," "picture this," "do you remember when."

Share an Anecdote or Quote

Anecdotes short account of a particular incident or event,especially of an interesting or amusing nature that can make people laugh or immediately establish the main point of your post.

It's important to grab a reader's attention from the start rather than capturing them midway, that's if they get there.

A funny quote from a recognizable authority or famous person can also work wonders when holding attention in those crucial seconds of the opening post.




Final Thoughts

There have been many blogs that I have stopped following from the simple fact that the posts were getting very uninteresting like the writer wasn't even making an effort to post great content for the readers.

Tip: One of the most important part of your blog post is the closing.A great way to close a post is to tie back into your opening.

Tip: Keep in mind that the reader wants to connect with a writer and not just read a generic post.Shows readers that you are a real person with a real personality.
