Yurts are great survival shelters because they are inexpensive and can be left if the need arises to leave an area due to emergency evacuation of a site. Yurts come in many sizes to fit a single person or a small or large family.

Tent For Survival

The tent is and always has been a primary temporary dwelling.It can also be a semi permanent place for the individual and family too. The author's former husband was born in a tent in north western Montana and spent the first year of his life in a tent too.Tents are very portable and can easily be carried in a small bundle as well as by a young person if needed.The weight depends on the material the tent is made of, the supports and the size.Go shopping for the tent of your choice since there are tents with floors, without and windows with flaps.

Cave Already Built

In the mountains, a cave can easily be dug out in the mountain side. Wooden supports like the old coal mines can be positioned to keep it from caving in too. A family idea to build a cave will be an interesting project and teach survival skills to young children of all ages. This cave can be visited during the hikes in the forested areas and finishing touches done until the progress is satisfactory for living to get out of the wind, weather and away from predators. Make a map where your cave is located and frequently go there with your group to make sure everyone can get there.

Tarps Constructed For Shelters

Quick and easy are tarps draped over branches or small trees which can provide some shelter from a cold wind, a storm and safety from fearful situations.The tarps can then be removed and become portable to another location. Choose your color to blend in with the environment or paint them if they are not already the proper color for a survival shelter that you don't want to advertise where you are in the woods or in the meadow.
