My last list was about things you might want to write about to earn some side income online. This list is the opposite, it is things I don't think you should write about. Well, some people make a lot of money writing about some of these topics, but I just don't think it's worth it.
Many "writers" on the internet spend their day re-writing news stories, and many don't give credit to the original source! I don't get how they even get away with it. Whatever happened to the journalist being credited for writing a news story? Now-a-days, you read a news story and you never know who wrote it. Was it the journalist who did the one-on-one interview? Or was it the online blogger who has just read a dozen articles regarding the interview and rehashed them into her own blog. It's just not nice and takes hits (and cash) away from the original source.
I don't care if you get paid 100$ per hit for writing about something, if you are not interested in it you really shouldn't do it. Let's say you were offered a job writing about yardwork, for good money... but every time you had to write you dreaded it so much! Don't do it! The truth is, most of us do not make hundreds of dollars writing online, so spend your time on something that interests you and don't waste it on something that bores you.
Rumors spread around the internet like wildfire. One person posts a rumor (with absolutely NO proof or fact), then suddenly a hundred people re-write that rumor. Now, because everything gets lost in the web of the internet, no one knows if it is true or not. There are a few reasons you shouldn't write about unfounded gossip. For one, you look stupid when the truth comes out and you may lose readers. Second, you could get in trouble if the person being gossiped about decides to take action against the writers. It's just not a good way to make money. Focus on the truth!
Well, there may be something you are interested, but if no one else is, you might not find it worth writing about. Say you love ants, for example. Well you could write all day about ants and everything you know... then earn .0002 cents because you only get hits from 10 people. Writing about things that interests you is great! But if you really find you aren't getting anything out of it then it seems like a waste of time.
Alternatively, if you choose a topic that EVERYONE is writing about, you will have a much harder time getting hits. For example, I used to write about Survivor. I spent time every week doing this and was barely getting hits because 100s of other people were writing about it too. While you may be the lucky one that gets listed first on Google, now-a-days it's more likely you'll be in the 100th spot instead of the first.
Very good points! Good list, I hope I do not make a mistake like what you mentioned. If I do not know the source, say quote, I usually put 'unknown'. Credit should be given where credit is due!
