As someone born under the sign of Sagittarius, the recent change to the Zodiac by the addition of a 13th sign, Ophiuchus, has made me take notice. Here are five facts about this little known Zodiac sign.
Ophiuchus is a constellation but is the only one that is linked to a "real" man. Around the 27th century BCE in Egypt there was a man named Imhotep who is credited with bringing the knowledge of medicine to people. He was known to the Greeks as Aesclepius and as Joseph to the Hebrews.
Astrologers have always known that for 19 days a year the Sun passes through the constellation Ophiuchus after leaving Scorpius and before entering Sagittarius. For whatever reason, they chose to ignore this.
The constellation Ophiuchus is patterned after a Sumarian god Enki, a serpent holder. Ophiuchus is a Greek name which means serpent holder. Another name used for the constellation is Serpentarius.
The qualities of someone born under this sign are not really clear. For those who felt that they identified with the attributes of a true "Sagittarian" and now due to the addition of this 13th sign feel confused, I am right along with them. The suggestion by many astrologers is that perhaps someone who was born during this time period may be a combination of Scorpio and Sagittarius.
The man Imhoteps was someone who was acknowledged for his healing and introduction of medicine to the world. Flamboyant in dress was another term used to describe him.
This recent "rediscovery" makes modern astrology laughable. Technically, in order to follow astrology correctly, one would need to find out the exact time of birth in order to see where the stars and planets were lined up in order to more accurately use astrology in their life.
Makes you wonder what the 13th sign has been doing right?
