My wife and I often like to go to Banff National Park for a day in the summer, it is a well known tourist destination with lots to see and do.
Lake Louise is a very popular destination within Banff National Park, there is a posh hotel and canoe rentals. The lake is too cold for swimming but great for photography.
The city of Banff is towards the south end of the park. It is very much a popular tourist town with shops and restaurants.
I really enjoyed hiking Johnston Canyon, there are many small water falls along the way. At the end there is another scenic fall, but it is the walk on boardwalks clinging to the canyon walls that makes this so interesting.
I am not sure if you can get down to the lake itself, but there is a spectacular view of Peyto Lake after a bit of a hike. Peyto lake is an unusual shape which some think of as a bear, and it has interesting colors.
The Columbia Icefields are a really interesting show of how fast glaciers are melting. As you hike up the mountain posts along the way mark where the foot of the glacier was according to different years.
Oh, What great memories from this wonderful list. h5
