Block your number on caller id by pushing *67 and then dialing the number that you want to call. This prevents your telephone number from showing up on someone else's caller id. You have to do this for each call that you want blocked. This works on cell phones and land lines. There are reasons to do this that are not sinister. I have used this when I am calling realtors to ask questions and I do not want them to call me back.
There is a permanent way to block your number on caller ID. You can ask for a line block from your telephone company or service provider. Your number will never show up on someone's caller id. An extremely private person will sometimes ask for this option. It is a little more inconvenient than pushing *67 as will be explained next.
Even though a line block option is permanent, you can unblock individual calls. There are some people that you will want to let know that you are calling. Many people and businesses will not answer the phone if they cannot identify the person on the other line. For the times when you do not want to block your number on caller, push *82 before dialing the number. You may be doing this frequently.
Make sure that all of the above steps to block your number on caller id are working and that you are doing it correctly. Make arrangements to call a relative or friend, or try it by using your cell phone to call your land line. This way you can make all of your calls with confidence.
Most telephone service providers will not charge to block your number on caller id. However, it is best to check with your provider to make sure that this is true in your case. Be aware that telephone blocking is not allowed and will not work on emergency services or toll free numbers.
